Sadness in the Nation....

Red Sox nation that is. Theo Epstein, in a sudden turn of events, this afternoon resigned as GM of the Red Sox. Just this morning, I thought everything was good...the Globe had reported that an agreement to a contract extension had been reached and Theo would be coming back to help craft the 2006-2008 Sox. During the 5:30 local news, the story broke that Theo would not be returning. This is a serious big bummer to me. Yes, Theo had a few questionable moves (the lesser Giambi, Byun-hun Kim) but overall, he did a wonderful job putting together the team that won the 2004 World Series. For that, he will always be remembered with fondness in the Boston area (at least among those with half a brain). Now it is going to be that much more of a questionable offseason; we have to find a new GM and one that apparently doesn't mind working with Larry Lucchino. There are also the questions of the free agents (Millar, Mueller, Damon) as well as Manny's annual (now semi-annual) request to be traded. Stay tuned!

On another note: It was a beautiful day today here in New England. Sunny with a high of 68. Looks like this nice weather will be with us for the next week or so, with a brief cooldown following a cold fropa (that's frontal passage) on Wednesday.

Movie review: This will be short because I don't have much to say about this one. The Aviator was nominated for several Academy Awards but I'm not sure exactly why. It was an interesting movie in the sense of learning a bit about history, and DiCaprio did a good job portraying Hughes, who seemed to be a very odd duck. However, it was pretty long and a little slow in parts. I have to give it ** just for the good acting performance.
