I Luv Gerber

Do you know why I love Gerber? Well...I will tell you why. Elisabeth cannot keep a pacifier in her mouth. She does something with it to flick it out of her mouth. The problem is that she loves her pacifier....needs her pacifier...can't sleep without the pacifier. It has been a long 4 months in the sleeping department for us, since one of us had to hold in the pacifier for her to fall asleep initially and then at various times in the night when she would wake up. Well...at her 4 month checkup I mentioned this to the nurse practitioner. She said that it didn't mean there was anything wrong with her (I didn't think that was the case anyway) and that some babies can't keep a pacifier in. Then she said that in the hospitals and NICU's they use pacifiers shaped more like the nipple on a bottle but that they don't really sell them out in retail. The next day (on our outing to the fabric store) we stopped by Target so that I could get a crib soother for her (more on this in a second). I decided to take a look at the pacifier selection just to see if there was a different shape that I could try for her. We'd tried the symmetrical bulb type as well as the orthodontic type with no success. Lo and behold what did I see as I was perusing but a pacifier that looked just like a bottle nipple. I decided for $3 it was worth it to see if it would work. I really wasn't expecting much....I didn't want to get my hopes up. But as soon as I put it in her mouth (after sterilizing of course :) ) and then let go, she just kept sucking on it. It was SO amazing...in fact, I'm still amazed. I'm looking at her right now...pacifier in mouth. Amazing. So, this plus the Flutterbye Dreams crib soother (plays music, has little birdies that move around plus a ceiling light show) has equaled good night's sleep for us the past 2 nights. Last night she slept from 9:30 pm to 6:15 am in her crib in her own room. That is awesome. So thank you Gerber, you're the best!

YEAH! Too bad I read this post at the same time as the one above it. You know, the car puts her to sleep. You could drive to Starbucks and that is a double plus. Caffeine and a sleeping baby!

Lexa has the same problem. It sucks (no pun intended) when we hear her spit her pacifier out at 2:30 in the morining and we have to get up and put it back in. We'll definately check this out.

Fortunately, Georgia prefers her thumb to a pacifier. I'll be complaining about that when it comes time to wean her off her thumb though. At least you can take a paci away from them at that time.
