Shall We Dance?

Last week, was the season premiere of "Dancing with the Stars". I didn't even know about the show the first season (I think I was still not fully awake most of the time after Elisabeth's arrival). My mom convinced me to check out season 2, so last spring I watched...and yes, I will admit it here, became hooked. It was with great anticipation that I awaited the next installment of my new fav show. Last Tuesday didn't disappoint. Here are the celebrities for this season and my first impressions of them on the show.

  • Tucker Carlson : He was one I could say, oh, I know who he is. He's the guy who wears the bowtie on Crossfire on CNN (now is where you make jokes that I'm really a 70 year old lady who knits while watching political shows during the evening). His dancing was well, it reminded me of maybe a very large and ungainly St. Bernard trying to prancing down a street like a poodle. Very bad. He looked like he had a good time which was nice, but I was pretty sure he wasn't going to stick around long. And I was right. He was the first one gone.
  • Monique Coleman : Apparently she's a teen idol. Who knew? I thought she was pretty good; she had nice poise. The judges said there wasn't chemistry between her and her partner, Louis Van Amstel . I don't know, somehow I can't blame Monique if there isn't. He kind of creeps me out. He's just a little, off, somehow. Can't quite put my finger on it.
  • Sara Evans : Apparently she's a singing sensation. Yup...definitely out of the loop, I am. I thought she was much better than the judges scored her. I think her experience with performing live will be an asset to her this season. I think she'll be sticking around through the halfway point.
  • Willa Ford : She's a singing sensation too and the "self proclaimed bad girl of pop". Any of my better informed friends know about her? I think she will go very far this season. She's obviously talented and reminds me of Stacy Kiebler (female pro wrestler) from last season.
  • Vivica A. Fox : I most recently saw her in Alias as the designer of the security system for the compound in Chaminde. She was great. Very confident and relaxed. She's my sleeper pick to win.
  • Harry Hamlin : Or for those of you who did watch the show last year, Mr. Lisa Rinna. He was just ok. All I could think about while watching him was that he resembles the Green Goblin from the first Spiderman movie.
  • Joey Lawrence : Woah! Joey's got no hair! I think he stands a great shot at making it to the final. He's a little, intense, I guess, but I think he'll go far.
  • Mario Lopez : Yup, that's right, Slater's dancing! And he was fabulous. The best performance of the night in my opinion. He's my pick right now to win it all. I think that Latin mojo is going to be the secret to his success.
  • Shanna Moakler : She was the runner up for Miss USA back in the early 90's and then got to be Miss USA b/c the current Miss USA became Miss Universe. She was I think very nervous and so I don't think she did as well as she could have. I don't see her staying around to the end though.
  • Emmitt Smith : Another of my faves. He's a big dancing teddy bear. So much enthusiasm; you could tell he was having a ball. I think he'll go far...maybe even challenge for the championship.
  • Jerry Springer : Oh my. Well, at least he didn't bring any of his men wanting to be women who want to be men on the show with him. He was just ok. He's well, a little older and unfortunately for him, won't be able to keep up with the younger and more fit dudes. I don't think he'll last for more than a couple weeks. If he makes it past next week, it's totally because there are crazy people voting for him (like with Master P last season)
So that's my assessment so far of the show. Tom Bergeron and Katie Holmes, oops, Samantha Harris do a pretty decent job with the hosting. Katie, I mean Samantha, is a little annoying at times however. Maybe it's the dumb questions they make her ask or the completely fabricated enthusiasm. Who knows. I guess it could be worse though.

Incidently, I bought the movie "Shall We Dance" with Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, and Jennifer Lopez today. I love that movie...completely different than what I thought it was going to be like and quite lovely at the end (makes me tear up every time).

Willa Ford had one hit back in the late 90's or early 00's with "I wanna be bad." She also dated Nick Carter around that same time (publicity stunt).

Dancing with the Stars. Now that the show is over and the champion is picked - check out your comments on the personalities. Good for you, you had it narrowed from the start. Maybe you should be a judge. I share your sentiment on the movie "Shall we dance". Will watch with you on my next visit.
