Weather report: It's a little chilly today, but mostly sunny: 45 with a dewpoint of 31. Last night it got down to 33! Brrr... Check back here this weekend for reports of possible snowfall!
News of the day: Elisabeth has her 2 month checkup today. I can't wait to see how much she weighs. She's also getting 4 shots. It's going to be tough to watch. At her one month appointment she was given just one shot. After the nurse adminstered it, my little gal exhaled one giant scream and then proceeded to turn blue around the mouth trying to scream some more, except she didn't have any air left to breathe out. The nurse, Jessica (who was visiting) and I are all watching saying "BREATHE!" She finally did...but it took a long time to calm her down again.
I also found out something today. In this little magazine we have, it says around now (during the 3rd month) babies start liking toys such as rattles. So, me being scientific and all decides to try it out on Elisabeth. Well...I shook the rattle and was promptly rewarded with the "mad face" and then a scream. Maybe we'll try again next week!
Last night Rich and I watched Batman Begins. It was...well...not that good. Very dark. And Katie Holmes (I apologize to all those Katie Holmes fans out there) was quite vapid and insipid. Christian Bale did a pretty good job at Batman, but I kept wondering whether he got tired of talking in his "Batman" voice. I thought the Order of the Shadows (or whatever they were called) was kind of far fetched and silly. And, Jessica, you were right: I'm SO glad I didn't see it in the theatre. I would be having nightmares about psychotic scarecrows. So, I guess you know where I'm going with my rating. It's definitely a *. Good thing I was crocheting the whole time so I didn't actually lose 2 hours of my life. Oh and they couldn't have been more subtle about a sequel. What will they call it? How about Batman Continues? And the next one could be Batman Still Exists, followed by I'm Still Batman.

Do Katie Holmes fans really exist?
Um...probably not (except Tom), but I thought I'd throw that out there just in case.
I have seen that movie twice this week! Knitting did help. I am glad you see it my way, but Andrew says it is one of the best movies ever! What did Rich think?
We got power back tonight! I am so grateful that we got it back before it got hot. We actually still have the windows open.
I am pretty sure Jack dropped for real yesterday. He's coming soon! - Jessica
"I'm still batman"...hahahah!

Batman Begins...
Batman began as a very realistic movie, depicting a broken man and his misguided ways to deal with the guilt and fear he carried over from his childhood. It was refreshing to see a "comic book" movie stripped down to something that did not require the complete suspension of disbelief to enjoy. Batman did not posess magical or unexplained powers. He was a real man driven with passion (and a few nifty but nevertheless realistic gadgets).
Then the movie continued... and took a full 180 as it transformed into very far-fetched plot lines and action sequences. It was almost like two distinct parts that did not fit together so well.
I should point out that I don't really care if comic book movies are plausable or wildly fantastic - but I would like some continuity within a given movie. Anyways, I enjoyed the movie but thought the second half plot was somewhat contrived and was a poor match for the story told at the front end of the movie.
Of course, I'm looking forward to the sequel.
Batman Begins is certainly not going to be in the running for any Academy Awards anytime soon, but it is a worthy film for the franchise. Christian Bale was ideally cast for the best Batman role thus far (sorry if you're a Clooney fan-- no really... sorry). If realism is your thing, however, look elsewhere... afterall, "anyone who dresses up as a bat clearly has issues."
I found the depth of Bruce Wayne's character to be well explored, and in keeping with the true nature of his alter-ego. The darkness of the film is considerably adult, but I appreciated the effort to humanize the character through his struggles.
Not exactly a hit with the ladies, but very well done for the franchise in my book. Jury's still out as to whether or not it'll make my DVD collection-- probably though, if the sequels hold up and the screenwriters don't start putting the word "bat" in front of the proper names for Batman's high speed gear.
And as far as far-fetched plot lines go, it could have been worse-- at least there was no batcopter, shark repellent, sidekick or nipples on the batsuit.
